Understanding Fever

Are you suddenly feeling flushed, hot, and having chills? You could have a fever. A fever happens when your body’s temperature suddenly rises. For most people, a fever is usually not a cause for concern. Fevers generally go away after a few hours or within a day. A normal body temperature is 98.6°F (37°C).  Contact Doral Health and Wellness and talk to our primary care doctors if you need help managing your fever, or of a family member. They are the best doctors in Brooklyn, and they can help and work you with your condition. Doral Health and Wellness also has an urgent care facility that can provide you emergency medical assistance should you need one.  The best way to measure your body temperature can be done using a thermometer that is inserted orally, rectally, or axillary (under your arm). It can also be measured using a special instrument inserted in your ear to read the temperature of your eardrum.  Sometimes, having fever doesn’t necessarily mean that something is wrong with you. Your body’s temperature can change all throughout the day because of various reasons, including your activities and the emotions that you are feeling. Stress, excitement, and menstrual cycle are some of the factors that can raise your body’s temperature.  However, you should also know when to worry about your fever. There are factors that should be considered: how long your fever lasts or the duration and if whether they come and go and how high your fever is. Symptoms When you have a fever, it can sometimes go with other conditions. Aside from having an elevated temperature, that goes beyond 100.4°F, you might have other symptoms that can include: Causes When you have fever, it can be a result of almost all illnesses. Among the most common are: Body temperature can vary from person to person. But most doctors consider a temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) to be a fever, however, it is different in children at 99.5°F (37.5°C). If you have mild fever, make sure that drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest. If your fever goes beyond 106°F (41.1°C) and does not come down ever after treatment has been administered, it could already be life-threatening, and you should already go to urgent care facilities or call 911. Having a fever could also mean that your immune is fighting bacteria, virus, or an infection. A fever is not an illness but rather, a symptom. Your doctor may want to order out tests and laboratory to identify the cause of your fever and give you the right medications.  Consult your doctor immediately if you have fever accompanied with: If you have mild fever, contact your primary doctor. The Importance of Flu Vaccine

Influenza, or flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus that infect the nose, throat, and the lungs. Each year, millions of Americans get sick with the flu, sometimes it causes mild illness, but it can also be serious especially with younger and older people, and people with existing health conditions. With this, the best way in reducing your risk of getting infected with flu is to get vaccinated every year. At Doral Health and Wellness, we have the best primary care doctors for you and your whole family. They are the best doctors in Brooklyn, and they can help you manage and deal with you and your family’s health condition. We also offer different types of vaccination, such as flu vaccine, and immunization for the whole family’s medical needs. One of the primary reasons why the flu vaccine is important is its ability to prevent the said condition or illness. Vaccination helps to build your immunity against the virus, providing protection against infection. The flu vaccine contains inactivated or weakened strains of the influenza virus, allowing your body to recognize and develop defenses against it. By getting vaccinated, you and your family can significantly reduce your chances of contracting the flu. And even if you do contract the flu after being vaccinated, the vaccine can lessen the severity of your symptoms, shortening the duration of the flu, and reducing your risk of complications. Also, the flu vaccine plays an important role in reducing the spread of the influenza virus. The flu is highly contagious and can spread easily, especially in crowded places such as schools, workplaces, and public transportation. Vaccination helps to create what is known as “herd immunity”. When a seemingly large portion of a population is vaccinated, it will be harder for the virus to spread, protecting those who are unable to receive the vaccine due to various reasons, such as those who have allergies or have compromised immune systems. If we reduce the spread of the virus, the vaccinated population will be able to help protect those that cannot get the vaccine, such as children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions. It is important to note that influenza can be a potentially serious condition that may lead to hospitalization and even death. Receiving the flu vaccine can help prevent the illness, reduce its spread and also help the public’s health. By getting vaccinated, you do not only protect yourself but also your family’s health and those of others. Sprains are injuries caused by a stretched or torn ligament. A ligament is a fibrous band of tissue  that connects two or more bones at a joint. When you have a sprain, you may have an injury in  one or more ligaments in your body. You can have a sprain anywhere in your body but the most  common sprains are in your ankles, knees, or wrists.   Doral Health and Wellness has an urgent care facility that can provide you emergency medical  assistance should you need one. We also provide lab tests, such as x-rays, if you require  immediate results for your sprains.   Sprains can be treated at home, especially within the first 24 to 48 hours after your injury. Here  are the steps you can take in giving first-aid treatments to sprains:  1.Control the swelling of your injured area by following the R.I.C.E. therapy:  R (rest) – rest your injury. It is important that when you have an injured rest, you take time  to let it heal and let it rest. Do not put any weight on the area for about 48 to 72 hours.   I (ice) – ice the area of your injury. You can use a cold pack, or a compression sleeve with ice  cold water to help keep the swelling at bay. As much as possible, ice the area as soon as  possible after the injury. Continue icing the area for about 20 to 30 minutes, 6 times a day,  until the swelling improves. It is also important that you do not use the ice on your skin for  too long as it can cause tissue damage.  C (compression) – put compression on the injured area, you can use a bandage or an elastic  wrap. There is an available specialized braces that can work better than an elastic bandage  to stop the swelling.  E (elevate) – as much as possible, elevate the injured area above your heart level.  2.Manage the pain  You can administer over-the-counter pain killers to help manage the pain of your sprain,  such as ibuprofen or aspirin.  3.Seek medical assistance  See a doctor even with the minor sprains. Have the injured area be evaluated by a doctor to  rule out possible broken bone, especially if you experience symptoms such as:  ∙A “popping” sound in the injured area  ∙You can’t move the injured area or limb   ∙Your limb buckles when the injured joint is moved  ∙You feel numbness in your injured area  ∙There is swelling, pain or open cuts  ∙If you are having fever  Sprains may take several days to months to heal and for you to fully recover. It is very important  that you wait for your injured limbs to restore its strength and stability before you use it again  and go back to your usual activities. In some cases, you might need a physical therapist to help  you with your injury.   Do not hesitate to seek emergency medical assistance if you are unable to bear weight on your  injured limb, or if you feel pain directly over the bones of the injured area. For urgent medical  emergencies, you can visit Doral Health and Wellness Urgent Care. We provide urgent and  comprehensive care for your condition. For more info, visit us at  http://www.urgentcareclinicbrooklyn.com/ or call at 1-347-384-5690.

What is Influenza?

Influenza, or flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus that infect the  nose, throat, and the lungs. Each year, millions of Americans get sick with the flu, sometimes it  causes mild illness, but it can also be serious especially with younger and older people, and  people with existing health conditions.  At Doral Health and Wellness, we have the best primary care doctors and urgent care facilities  for you and your whole family. They are the best doctors in Brooklyn, and they can help you  manage and deal with you and your family’s health condition. We also offer different types of  vaccination, such as flu vaccine, and immunization for the whole family’s medical needs.  Symptoms  Symptoms of the flu can come on suddenly. If you are sick with the flu, you may experience  some or all of these symptoms at once and they may include:  ∙Fever or chills  ∙Cough  ∙Sore throat  ∙Runny or stuffy nose  ∙Muscle and body pain  ∙Headaches  ∙Fatigue  ∙Loss of appetite  ∙Vomiting  ∙Diarrhea  Causes  A flu is caused by a virus that spreads from person to person. You can spread it if you are  infected with the flu and you cough, sneeze, or talk and spray tiny droplets of saliva, and they  land on the nose or mouth of the people nearby. Or sometimes, when a person touches a  surface or object that has a flu virus on it, and touch their mouth and nose, they may get  infected with the flu virus too.   If you are infected with flu, you may also develop other complications. These complications can  be mild or severe, they can include:  ∙Bronchitis  ∙Ear infection  ∙Sinus infection  ∙Pneumonia  The flu can also make other chronic illnesses worse, such as persons with asthma.  Treatment  Usually, if you are infected with the flu you can get better on your own. You will need nothing  but rest and plenty of fluids. If you have severe infection or are at higher risk of complication,  consult your medical provider so you will be prescribed with an antiviral drug.   If you come down with the flu, drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. You should also get  more sleep to help your immune system fight the infection. You can also take over-the-counter  drugs to combat the body and muscle pain associated with influenza.   To help control the spread of influenza, you are advised to stay at home while you are down  with it. Avoid being around other people especially with infants, children, older people, and  people with low immune system.   Always ask your primary care doctor before taking any form of medication. Your doctors may  prescribe antibiotics if he/she suspects that it is more than just a viral infection. Never self- medicate and follow your doctor’s advice, especially if you are not sure of your condition.  But the best way in preventing influenza and/or spreading it, is to get vaccinated. The flu  vaccine is effective in reducing the risk of contracting the flu. And even if you do contract the flu  after being vaccinated, the flu vaccine can lessen the severity of your symptoms, shortening the  duration of the flu, and reducing your risk of complications.  At Doral Health and Wellness, our team of primary care physicians aims to provide the best  health care and services to everyone. We have a family doctor that can help you schedule  routine checkups and health screenings to ensure that you and your family are in your optimal  health. You can also visit our website at https://doralhw.org or contact us at info@doralhw.org  if you have any queries.   For urgent medical emergencies, you can also visit Doral Health and Wellness Urgent Care. We  provide urgent care for common illnesses and injuries. Additionally, we also provide  comprehensive care for any related injuries and health problems. We also offer other services,  such as vaccinations, immunizations and blood testing. For more information you can visit us at  1797 Pitkin Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, 11212 or call us at 1-347-384-5690. Visit us at  http://www.urgentcareclinicbrooklyn.com/.
